Chimay

The Rich taste of a Chimay is really appreciated by an educated, mature palate. When pouring this beer, you can see and feel that produces such a generous head. You will also recognise the quality of the hops in the bitter taste, the generous malt in its fullness, its special yeast and the technique of the master brewer in its unique character. These are some of the reasons why a Chimay is not a beer to be drunk, but a beer to be savoured. And that is something to be learnt.
It may surprise certain people that monks devote time to brewing beer, but that is in keeping with the rules of observance laid down by Saint Benedict who ordained the obedience the land and produce their own food and drink. And as the monasteries were also places of study and knowledge, it is not surprising that a veritable art of brewing developed.
In fact only 6 beers are brewed within the walls of the Trappist abbeys. These 6 Trappist beers are: Achel Chimay, Orval, Rochefort, Westmalle and Wetvleteren.
The Chimay "Blue" is a strong beer with an odour of fresh yeast coupled with a slight rosaceous flowery touch. Its alcohol content is 9% by volume
The Chimay "Red" has a taste that produces a silky feeling on the tongue and a slight hint of bitterness that makes it a good thirst-quencher. Its alcohol content is 7% by volume.
